ABOUT THE TRADITIONAL FOODS CLUB

The Traditional Food Club, inc (TFC) is member and volunteer organization that hosts a Farm-to-Consumer service that helps to provide access to traditional foods. It offers consumers in NYC and metro NY a way to purchase foods directly from regional farms and other regional producers of traditional foods. The TFC has also become a model of direct farm-to-consumer sales when CSA's or farmer's market are either not convenient, not available or do not have certain foods.

The Traditional Foods Club currently focus on foods such as: pasture-raised poultry eggs; unprocessed dairy from pasture-fed heritage breeds of cows and goats; a variety of foods from humanely and pasture-raised animals; cultured vegetables, dairy, grains and drinks, and traditionally prepared foods, such as gelatin-rich bone broths. Many other foods are available and we continue to expand the availability of traditional foods both in kind and in accessibility.

The TFC does not buy or sell any foods, nor does it profit from the service it provides. We look to our members support in volunteer work and donations to maintain this service.

OUR HISTORY

The Traditional Foods Club began intially as a service of the NYC chapter of the Weston A. Price Foundation in January 2002. The chapter leader was motivated by the numerous requests for help in gaining access to traditional foods, as a many were not readily available in the city. After researching farms that produced foods in traditional ways and developing relationship with a particular farm / dairy, the chapter began to support a direct farm-to-consumer service. A Williamsburg, Brooklyn church hosted the initial deliveries of the farm-purchased foods.

Quickly the demand grew and in the coming months and years, what became known as the 'milk club' (though more than dairy was available from farmers) grew to support connections with other farmers and other neighborhoods. Along with the growth of the farm-to–consumer service, the group grew to offer community gatherings, education and farmer support and other services related to traditional foods and nutrition

In November of 2006, the traditional foods services and farm-to consumer club formally split off from the NYC WAPF chapter and incorporated as the Traditional Nutrition Guild (TNG), a non-profit organization in the state of NY.

In June 2010, The Traditional Nutrition Guild was granted 501c3 status and the TNG's farm-to consumer service (or 'delivery club' as it was referred to), then incorporated as the Traditional Foods Club, inc., an independent subsidiary corporation wholly owned by the Traditional Nutrition Guild.
